The view of Thames Lock from a narrowboat as the torrent poured towards me; powerful, ever-changing, deafening. The differing textures of the water inspired me; they looked tactile but could never truly be.
The gates hold back the enormous, relentless weight of the river at this junction where the River Wey, the waterway of my adult life, meets the Thames of my youth. The forces of nature seemed to combine with the forces of my personal memory and identity.
Thames Lock represents a very personal moment of connection; that something as universal as nature can evoke a very individual response.
