Coastal studies undertaken during lockdown sparked a fascination with the weathered sea groynes. Once incongruous with the coastal landscape, they are now embedded in its story.
This work suggests a journey where a duo of large-scale sculptures, placed within coastal locations on either side of the world, disappear into the ocean as if embarking on an epic voyage. They enter the sea on the south coast of England and travel in an undeviating line through the treacherous waters of Drake Passage to Aotearoa New Zealand, eventually emerging on a Wellington shore.
This work explores themes of duality, distance, and longing.
