Small Hours captures the intimate solitude of sleeplessness where the brain, in overdrive, seems to operate in an uncanny state. Combined digital and analogue processes, elements of speed and stillness, and notions of comfort and restlessness, explore this internal space of links and synapses. As a stand-in bed, the stacked woolen blankets hold both physical and emotional memory and a longing for a pre-technological, pre-synthetic age. And, in a rejection of the ubiquitous screen and a return to a '70s childhood, the animation’s merged low/high technology is projected directly from the stack to the wall.
